Remote Access to Your Computer

One of us works away from home three days a week. I know that it's everyone's dream to be able to run their own business from home and never have to go out work again but after a few years of doing that it wears a bit thin.

I guess that's hard to believe for some but we are not the only ones who have found that working from home has lost its attraction. So three days a week Toni rents a desk from a friend who has a computer shop at the other end of town and she works there and uses one of his computers.

Transferring files has proven to be a bit of a hassle. We've tried several different ways including a USB drive that Toni loads up to take down and then loads up to bring the new work back home.

It's worked fairly well but sometimes files are forgotten and that can disrupt the flow of work. So we decided that we needed some form of remote access. I looked at a couple of options including PC Anywhere and decided that I had better things to do with my life than to waste it wading through 200 pages of technical waffle that was never written for normal human beings.

Today I found a little programme called Log Me In. It provides remote access to the home computer from just about anywhere you can get on line. I was a little dubious about the set up time that would be involved but I read some great reviews on Download.com and decided to give it go.

It was downloaded and set up in about 10 minutes. It took me a little longer to work out that it and Firefox are not on speaking terms but as soon as I tried Internet Explorer it functioned perfectly.

Everyone gets a limited free trial and after that you have to decide whether you want the Pro version which comes with some advanced features or the plain vanilla version. One costs $12.95 a month and the other is free.

So far it really looks as though it has solved our problems. The connection time is a little slow but the interface is easy to use and the convenience is wonderful.

So if you need to have remote access to your computer you might find this product useful. You can find the home page for Log Me In right here.
