| Small Business Health Issues Your Health is Important Sometimes I scare myself. Yesterday I asked if your small business could cope if you became incapacitated and this morning I woke up at 1am with aches and pains that have the potential to curtail some of my plans for today. Fortunately they won't prevent me from sitting here at the computer and working but the probably will stop me from getting out and doing the banking. Toni won't be able to get there either so I guess the banking will just have to wait till Monday and the exchange rate might be more in our favour then so all is not lost. However, my little malady does raise the question of what do you do about your health. I often think that operating a small business from home is a health hazard and there should be some sort of formal warning about it somewhere. It seems to be even more of a hazard if your business is computer based because the temptation is to stay planted in front of your monitor for hours and hours. I know that Toni and I often spend anything up to 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, in front of our monitors and that is bad. No regular breaks, no exercise and before you know it you've become a blob. And that is very dangerous and even more dangerous for anyone who is over 40. If you don't look after yourself and get regular proper exercise your health deteriorates, your ability to work is affected and that flows on to your bottom line. So taking time out to look after your health is vital. Think of it as an investment in your future and in your business and you won't feel so bad about it when you get up and walk away from your computer. 5
