Don't be afraid of it

It’s Sunday and that’s supposed to be a day of rest but, if your business is based on the Internet then rest can be a relative term. Today we’ve already gone out for breakfast and had a walk on the beach.

Now we’re doing some work and this afternoon Toni will be heading to Brisbane for business while I will be winding down by working on a new site. Until then though it’s business as usual.

I guess that some may wonder why anyone would want to put in the hours that are required to build a successful online business. And there would have been a time when I would have thought the same.

But it somehow gets into your blood and the challenges of operating and growing a successful online business become exciting. Depending on what you are selling your potential market place can be huge.

Yet so many people still can only think in terms of their local area, their state or their country. Of course, not everyone can supply their product to clients outside of those boundaries but many of us can.

While many of us can supply our product or service outside those narrow geographic boundaries not that many actually do. It’s almost as if they are so afraid of the challenges that come with dealing outside of your country that they don’t want to think about the rewards that come too.

For example, the biggest market on the planet is opening up as we speak and yet too many small businesses are afraid to give it a try.

China is a cashed-up society and the Chinese want to spend their money overseas. They are an Internet savvy society too and, according to the Washington Post, there are 50 million of them who have a broadband Internet connection.
