Does Your Small Business Need a New Server?

If you find yourself in need of a server for your small business the price can really set you back and leave your budget in tatters for months. Even if you find something under $5000 you then face the worry of whether or not the machine will do just what you want.

But if your small business is in the market for a new server and price really is important than a review and comparison test by Australian Personal Computer Magazine of sub-$5000 machines could be of interest to you.

The servers they tested were:

Sun Fire V20z,
Tyan Transport GX280,
Acer Altos G520,
HP Proliant ML110,
Plus Corp Titan OP250 and the
Asus Ap1710-E1.

The magazine rated the machines on system performance, CPU performance, storage performance, upgradeability, redundancy and manageability.

It’s interesting to note that after the tests were carried out the magazine found that the price they had been quoted for the Sun V20z was incorrect and the correct price put that model over the dollar limit. Even though it cost more than the others the cost was warranted by any extra performance.

After running their usual standard tests Plus Corp Titan OP250 was the best of the bunch although they described the chipset in that machine as ‘unproven’. The cost of the Titan they tested was $4592.50.

The best value machine was the HP Proliant ML110 and it came in at an amazing $1699.00 .
