Advertising - Know Your Marketplace A small business person, especially one that operates from home is constantly confronted with many challenges. One of the biggest and most important is how to get their product or service out in front of the eyes of potential customers. It's only when people know about a small business that they may even think about that small business to meet their needs. So marketing your small business is vital, without it you have no clients and with no clients using your business you very quickly have no small business. But how do you go about getting your message out there? The answer to that question depends a great deal on where 'there' might be. For our business 'there' is just about anywhere. Our biggest potential marketplace is the Internet and so we use a number of different strategies to get our message out to small businesses who operate via the Internet. For us, 'there' also happens to be our local area and so we are always looking for new ways to market our business to local small businesses. So we have defined where our market is and we have also defined just who populates our market. We work with small businesses, and in particular we work with small businesses that have a presence on line. But what is your marketplace and who populates it? Spend some time thinking about it because you can waste a lot of money on advertising in the wrong marketplace and to the wrong people. And if there is one thing that most small business people hate, it's wasting money. So think
about it and I'll be back later on with some more on the subject. There
