| Small Business Getting Noticed in Google Build it and They Will Come? I Wish! If your small business or home based business relies on the Internet you probably don’t need me to tell you just how important it is to get seen on the search engines for search terms that relate to your business. If you’re like us you will be constantly checking to see how you rank for important terms and you will always be tweaking your sites to make sure that they reach the top and stay there. But if you’re new to doing business on the Internet you really only have two options. Pay someone to get your site up to the top of the listings or take some time to learn how to do it yourself. Unfortunately, paying someone is loaded with danger. Despite all the bold promises to have you listed and 23 million search engines most people who makes those offers have no idea about anything except how to take your money. And cutting through all the hype and actually finding someone who can deliver those good search engine placements for you is very difficult. Learning how to do it yourself is not easy either, although there is a certain amount of common sense involved. Of course there are message boards out there that offer you the chance to learn about search engine optimization but once again there are no guarantees. All to often message boards are infested with people whose knowledge and ability is exceeded by their hat size. Unfortunately you probably won’t notice that until you have wasted valuable time following their worthless suggestions. The number of books available on the topic has also been a bit limited but there is a new one out that is definitely worth a look. I always feel guilty when I see these books because they were obviously written for me and they even name me on the cover. This one is The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Growing Your Business with Google and it gives you the chance to learn from Dave Taylor, a guy who has many years experience in the business and who knows what he is talking about. Dave provides expert tips and tools to help you get your online site/business notices by Google. Apart from really digging deep in your hip pocket and paying for face to face tutoring with an SEO expert this book would have to be the next best thing. And if you’re serious about doing business on the Internet then you really must read this book because your customers will only start coming if they can find you.
