| Hey – You’re Small Business Needs a Blog But does it really? If you’ve been looking around the Net lately at anything related to small business you will undoubtedly have seen a lot of people trying to tell you that your business needs to have a blog. It doesn’t seem to matter what your business might be, according to countless people, you definitely need to have a blog. Well I’ve never suggested that I was an expert in anything beyond contemplating the fluff on my navel so I’m going to buck the trend and tell you that there are many many instances of small businesses that don’t need a blog. And it’s quite probable that your business falls into that category. Even if you do need a blog there may be very valid reasons why you should not have a blog. For example you may not have the skills required to create a blog and having no blog at all is much better than having a bad blog. Blogs should be used to promote your business and a bad blog is a bad advertisement for your business. Perhaps you do have the skills required to create a blog but do you know how to promote it effectively and will taking the time to learn really be a good return on the investment of your time and effort? If you don’t have the skills to write and promote a blog you can of course employ someone to do it for you. But will that cost lead to an increase in sales? Ultimately the decision to blog or not to blog comes down to the individual business. If you have the skills and you can see that it may have a positive impact on your bottom line then go right ahead. If you don’t
have the skills or can’t see how it will improve your bottom line
then don’t waste your time by starting. Invest that time in other
forms of promotion and leave blogging to the experts and the navel fluff
gazers.
