| What Do You Need to Grow Your Small Business? This is a question that Toni and I are pondering at the moment. We’re basically happy with the way the business is going but we want to grow it some more and move it in new directions. It’s like looking through a mist really. We think we can see those directions but they’re not they’re not yet solid. They shift a bit, like a mirage shimmering on the horizon. And we’re scratchy and unsettled as we look at where we could go but can’t quite make the connection. Sure, we’re writers but we’ve also been interested and involved in marketing and there is that hint out there in the distance that marketing could attract us again. But what do we need to grow in that direction? It’s hard to say because there is nothing solid so do we rush after those mirages? Do we ignore them and let an opportunity pass us by? Can we combine our writing and marketing? Once again we can’t really tell just yet and we find that frustrating … but also very interesting. I don’t recall that we have ever really found ourselves in this position before so how we handle it will be of interest to us. And what exactly got all this started? An email I got today from a marketing discussion group that I’m lurking in started me thinking about what we see ahead of us. The author suggested two things: 1. If you want to grow your business, you need to see the future 2. If you want to see what’s coming, you need to start trend-spotting. So what is
your future and what trends are you spotting. 22 Sep 2005 |
