Starting Your Own Online Shop
So you’ve decided that you want to start your own online shop.
You’ve heard that making money online is easy … people who are selling stuff online are making pots of gold … living the easy life … working a few hours a day … and now you want some of that gold and some of that lifestyle for yourself and you know that once you get started it won’t be long before you can give up your day job, work from home and spend most of you’re kicking back and enjoying the good life.
A reality check
Oh if only that was the reality! The fact is that selling anything online is becoming harder and harder and starting your own online shop is no more a guarantee of future wealth than finding a lottery ticket in the street is a guarantee you’ve just won the jackpot.
If you do get to the point where you’re starting your own online shop then what you are guaranteeing for yourself is many long hours of hard work doing things that you never thought you could do.
There’s going to be plenty of frustration too … and some heartache … and then there are the customers. If you can find any customers you will discover that some will be golden and really add to your bottom line while others will be little better than a dead weight that will drag your business down.
Starting your own online shop is definitely no shortcut to the good life. The money is there but getting your hands on your share can be a problem.
Of course you don’t believe that right now … you probably think that I’m either trying to get rid of some potential competition by convincing you that you shouldn’t even make a start (think about it and you’ll see that’s plain dumb but some people have accused me of trying to do that) or my online business has never succeeded and so I don’t believe that anyone else can succeed either.
Of course nothing could be further from the truth. Sure, starting your own online shop is no shortcut to the good life but you can achieve that lifestyle if you’re prepared to work hard. And I do want you to succeed … I hate seeing people fail … and competition is good so let’s talk about building your own online store.
What we can share with you.
And that’s what we’ll do in this series. What you’ll find here is what Toni and I have learnt from years of building online stores for others and from what we have learned from our own online stores.
If your immediate goal is starting your own online shop then we can guarantee that you will never be bored again because what you’re about to undertake will possibly the most challenging undertaking of your life and it will extend you in ways you never could have believed.
So let’s start at the very beginning and work our way on from there because there’s a lot to think about before we actually take the first step towards getting your shop online.
3. Storage for your online shop (where are you going to keep the stuff)
4. How are you going to ship your product?
5. How are you going to promote your online store?
