Web Tutorials for Small Business Owners.

Darren Rowse from Problogger recently said that what may appear to be very basic to someone like me may be highly advanced to other small business owners and so with that in mind I’ve launched a tutorial page here on e-Commerce & Small Business Guide.

Here you will find easy-to-follow tutorials for just about anything you may need to know when you want to add to your small business website.

Every tutorial includes simple written instructions and images/diagrams that will help you better understand the written instructions.

In most cases these web tutorials for small business owners will take you longer to read than to actually do the task so don’t be afraid to jump in and have a go (as we say here in Australia). Even when we get to some more advanced jobs the tutorials will break those tasks down into smaller tasks that are easily achievable.

Feel free to copy these tutorials and don’t be afraid to share the links with other small business people and website owners who are struggling to do things in WordPress.

If you do run into problems then please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email at copytext@gmail.com. Outline the problem you are having and I’ll get back to you with clearer instructions as soon as possible.

The tutorials you can access here are:

Banning a Hater from Your Facebook Business Page

Facebook believes that the review section of your business page is public property and anyone can access it and be able to post on it.

Sadly that suggests a rather rose-coloured view of the world. Facebook seems to ignore the fact that, in the real world, some of your competitors and other people of who want to harm your business will use that “public” space to try and destroy your business.

So when haters attack your business page Facebook what can you do? You will find a solution here

Embedding a Youtube Video in a WordPress Post or Page

It looks complicated but it is very very easy

Here is another tutorial that has been written after Darren Rowse from ProBlogger pointed out that what may be quite basic for people with experience can be terrifyingly advanced for someone with little or no experience.

While it is quite possible to embed a Youtube video in a WordPress post or page simply by using the right code it is far easier … even for more experienced people … to use a plugin.

There are several plugins available from the WordPress site but the one I use is Advanced Responsive Video Embedder. There is a pro version available but the basic version will do everything you need it to do. Click here for instructions on how to use it.

How to Update WordPress Plugins

I am continually coming across people who never update the plugins on their WordPress website because they either don’t know how to do it or they are afraid that they will make a mistake and screw things up.

Updating WordPress plugins on your website has to be one of the easiest tasks in WordPress and, if anything does break your website, it will not be your fault.

With the help of this tutorial you will quickly discover what an easy job it is to update WordPress plugins and it’s important that you learn how to do this because plugins that are out-of-date soon become a security risk and an open door for hackers to walk through. Click here for more
